The Rockhampton region now has over 25% of owner occupied homes with solar power, and it has proven itself as viable, reliable, cost reducing addition to the Home.
Increasingly, small business owners now see Solar power as a solution to reducing operating cost.
How does it work?
When the sun shines on a solar module the solar cells generate DC electricity. A grid-connected inverter converts the DC electricity produced by the solar cells into 240V AC electricity, which is then fed back into the home or business electricity system for self-consumption and the excess can be exported to the electricity grid. In the event that the electricity grid fails, the inverter will sense that the grid is no longer active and will shut down as a protection measure. With the exception of selected inverters, the Grid-connected solar power will no longer supply electricity until the grid power is turned back on.
Grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) systems produce electricity suitable for use by any home or business connected to the power grid. These systems must conform to certain specifications, functionality and safety requirements before ERGON, the electricity authority will allow their connection to the grid.

Why is solar power so popular?
Solar power is becoming increasingly popular for home installation for a variety of reasons. One major factor is that many people are getting ready for fixed income retirement and are looking for ways to reduce their monthly expenses. Solar power can help to significantly lower or even eliminate monthly electricity bills, which can be a major financial relief for retirees.
Another reason for the popularity of solar power is the increased use of electric vehicles (EVs). As more and more people switch to EVs, they need a reliable source of power to charge them. Solar power can provide a clean and sustainable way to charge EVs, which can help to reduce their environmental impact.
Many people also appreciate having some control over their own power and wanting some backup function. With solar power, homeowners can generate their own electricity and have the ability to be less dependent on the grid. This can provide peace of mind, especially during storm seasons.
Additionally, reducing the carbon footprint is an important consideration for many homeowners. Solar power is a clean and renewable energy source that does not produce any emissions or pollution. By installing solar panels, homeowners can help to combat climate change and reduce their own carbon footprint.
