Grid Connect Systems
The Rockhampton region now has over 25% of owner occupied homes with solar power, and it has proven itself as viable, reliable, cost reducing addition to the Home. Increasing, small business owners now see Solar power as a solution to reducing operating cost.
How does it work?
When the sun shines on a solar module the solar cells generate DC electricity. A grid connected inverter converts the DC electricity produced by the solar cells into 240V AC electricity, which is then fed back into the home or business electricity system for self-consumption and the excess can be exported to the electricity grid. In the event that the electricity grid fails, the inverter will sense that the grid is no longer active and will shut down as a protection measure. The Grid connected solar power will no longer supply electricity until the grid power is turn back on.
Grid connected solar photovoltaic (PV) systems produce electricity suitable for use by any home or business connected to the power grid. These systems must conform to certain specifications, functionality and safety requirements before ERGON, the electricity authority will allow their connection to the grid.
As a business and accredited designer and installers we support you in designing the right size system, then making the correct application for connection to the grid.
Why is solar power so popular?
Without doubt, the main driving force behind the demand for installing solar power systems is the rising cost of electricity! Having gone up by 65% in QLD in the last five years and set to continue rising to keep pace with the growing demand for energy and the need to either maintain existing infrastructure or transition to cleaner forms power generation technology.
Government subsidies and assistance have surely helped households and small businesses purchase solar power. Both Federal and State Governments have and still are subsidising the installation of solar power generation systems.
The Qld Government support you to go solar through the solar bonus scheme. It is a very important to understand about this scheme and how it works if you are considering installing a grid connect solar. The Federal Government support you to go solar through the Renewable Energy Target.
The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) creates a financial incentive for households, small businesses and community groups to install eligible small-scale renewable energy systems such as solar water heaters, heat pumps, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, small-scale wind systems, or small-scale hydro systems. It does this by legislating demand for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). STCs are created for these systems at the time of installation, according to the amount of electricity they are expected to produce or displace in the future. For example, the SRES allows eligible solar PV systems to create, at the time of installation, STCs equivalent to 15 years of expected system output.
While it is possible for owners of renewable energy systems to create and sell the STCs themselves, in practice, installers of these systems usually offer a discount on the price of an installation, or a cash payment, in return for the right to create the STCs.
